Herber Hoover was the son of a Quaker blacksmith. Born in Iowa in 1874 he grew up in Oregon. He enrolled in Stanferd when it opened in 1891. He graduated as a mining engineer. In June 1900 the Boxer rebellion cought him and his wife Tienstin, China. 1 week before his 40th birthday Germany decalered war on France. The American Counsel General asked for hellp from Hoover. In six weeks his committee helped 120,000 Americans beck to the United States. After the U.S enterd war, Hoover was declared Head of the Food Admindstrstion. He also helped when the srock market crashed. he lost to FDR when he tried to reelect. Hoover died October 20, 1964. He survived his term longer than any other prsident had.
